The Philippine government has deported 21 Chinese nationals who were found to be involved in illegal online gambling activities. This move is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal gambling operations.
The Chinese nationals were arrested in separate operations conducted by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). They were found to have violated Philippine immigration laws and were deported on November 3, 2022.
According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the Chinese nationals were found to have been working in call centers that catered to online gambling operations. Morente said that the BI is determined to weed out illegal foreign workers in the country.
The Philippines has been cracking down on illegal gambling activities, particularly those that cater to foreign nationals. The government has been working closely with foreign law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend those involved in illegal online gambling operations.
The Philippines has also been implementing stricter immigration policies to prevent the entry of illegal foreign workers. In September 2021, the government banned the entry of foreign nationals who have been to countries with confirmed cases of the new COVID-19 variant.
The deportation of the 21 Chinese nationals sends a strong message to those involved in illegal gambling activities in the country. The government remains committed to cracking down on these illegal operations to protect the welfare of its citizens and maintain peace and order in the country.
